The 2022–2027 strategic plan builds on the Commission’s work over previous years to ensure the Commission remains an effective and high-quality regulator of legal services.

Objectives and strategies

Independent, effective and modern regulation of the legal profession by:

  • continuously engaging with the legal profession, judiciary, academia and other key stakeholders to ensure awareness and maintain contemporary knowledge
  • timely assessment of enquiries and complaints and taking immediate action when necessary
  • assessing and investigating complaints and investigation matters in a professional and independent manner
  • litigating and prosecuting matters fairly and impartially.

Identification and analysis of systemic issues within the legal profession, impacting consumers of legal services by:

  • engaging with stakeholders for awareness and identification of emerging issues
  • analysing complaints and enquiry data to identify relevant issues and trends within the profession to help determine the direction of audit programs, investigations and enforcement
  • using trend data to identify topics for education and engagement, including the development of resources.

To deal with complaints and enquiries expeditiously and effectively by:

  • providing timely responses to enquiries and complaints and maintaining appropriate communication with all parties
  • progressing investigations in a respectful manner and identifying outcomes as early as practicable
  • being transparent and fair in the approach and progress of complaint and investigation matters.
